BONE BROTH WITH GARLICKY KALE – a different way to get greens in the morning

Bone Broth with Garlicky Kale

I know this isn’t your average breakfast but in the grey Winter months or rainy Spring days drinking a cold smoothie isn’t always appetising and you can only eat so much oatmeal. Starting your day with a hot bowl of Bone Broth is nourishing for your entire body – it is packed full of nutrients, helps promote energy and is healing for your stomach. A healthy serving of kale is the perfect pairing – eating greens in the morning sets the tone for your day and since they are so nutrient-dense they also help boost your energy.

Always use fresh bone broth that has not been processed. If you don’t have time to make your own bone broth there are many small companies popping up making quality bone broth, like Pure Bone Broth here in Vancouver. If you have a plant-based diet, substitute a vegetable broth instead of a bone broth.

Paired with buttered sourdough toast this breakfast will warm up your cold body and pick your spirit up to take on the day.

Bone Broth with Garlicky Kale

Serves 1

1.5 cups bone broth
¾ cup kale, chopped
1 clove garlic
1 tsp turmeric powder
salt + pepper

1. In a small saucepan, bring bone broth to a simmer. Add kale, garlic, and turmeric.  Allow to cook for 5-10 minutes or until kale is at desired doneness. Serve with toasted sourdough.

ADDITION:

Crack an egg into the broth in the last 3-4 minutes of simmering.
